19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hard surfaces
A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden trophy for over two years with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.
Medvedev, a ex- number one, has endured a difficult year, achieving just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a meltdown at the US Open.
The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in specific - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and finally splitting with former mentor his previous coach.
Currently training with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has steadily advanced in the past month - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over challenger Corentin Moutet.
It is his maiden trophy following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court since spring of 2023.
The win also signifies he has won 21 titles at twenty-one different tournaments.
"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my children at once, so to get a championship is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Medvedev.
"This championship is in dedication of my child her name, because the initial championship I got when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six finals, including in the German tournament previously this season.
Medvedev's counter-punching play style and frequent reactions on the tennis court had prompted some to wonder if his capacity to compete at the elite level was concluded.
But the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and play positively, backed up by an better service.
He came back from a break down in the first set against the difficult Moutet, winning four of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.
The pair traded break points in the second set before the Frenchman, striving for his first professional title, took control to create a decider.
The opponent rescued four early-game opportunities in a tight final set before Medvedev broke to that score to close out the victory.
Appropriately, Medvedev clinched the title with a rally at the net area, with Moutet failing to control a shot after over two and a half hours.
